Police to roll out ‘Traffitech-GH’ automated traffic enforcement system

The Ghana Police Service has announced plans to roll out an automated traffic law enforcement programme known as ‘Traffitech-GH’ in the coming months.

The initiative is expected to strengthen road safety enforcement and improve compliance with traffic regulations.

The service disclosed that it is collaborating with the Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Transport, National Road Safety Authority, Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, National Insurance Commission and the Ministry of Finance to engage Parliament on amendments to the road traffic regulations.

In a public notice issued on Wednesday, February 25, the law enforcement agency noted that the amendments will pave the way for the full rollout of Traffitech-GH.

Meanwhile, the Service has distanced itself from a fake electronic traffic violation notice circulating online.

The fake notice allegedly informed some individuals that they had breached traffic laws and were required to make payments.

In the statement, the Police said, “The Service wishes to inform the general public that the notification is false, fraudulent, invalid, and not coming from the Police Service.”

“The Service warns all persons circulating these notifications to desist outright since these nefarious act constitutes a serious offence punishable under the law, and perpetrators will be arrested and brought to justice,” the statement added.
