The suspected cannabis is believed to be worth over GH₵1.4m
Police in the Oti Region have retrieved a large quantity of suspected cannabis valued at more than GH¢1.4 million from a truck that was intercepted in December 2025.
According to the police, the Volvo truck was stopped at the Bonakye checkpoint while heading towards Passa.

In a statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police John Nchor of the Public Affairs Unit in the Oti Region, the police said the driver and one other occupant fled the scene after the vehicle was stopped.
They then abandoned the truck with the ignition key still in it, the statement added.
The police said when the truck was opened following a court order, officers found 320 cartons of bottled mineral water.
However, concealed beneath the cartons were 91 bales of suspected cannabis.

“The truck was opened at Nkwanta, in the presence of representatives from the Police, Military, NIB, Defence Intelligence, Ghana National Fire Service, the Narcotics Control Commission (Jasikan), and members of the media.
“Officers discovered three hundred and twenty (320) cartons of bottled mineral water, concealing ninety-one (91) bales of suspected cannabis, totalling seven thousand, one hundred and seventy-three (7,173) slabs, with an estimated street value of the seized substances exceeding GH¢ 1.4 million,” the statement said.
It further noted that the seized items “have been retained as investigations proceed.”
The police reaffirmed its commitment to combatting the trafficking and distribution of illegal drugs in the country.
