Device Kenyans mostly use to access digital media/WILLIAM WANYOIKE
Smartphones remain the dominant gateway to digital media in Kenya, with 91 per cent of respondents relying on the devices to access online content, according to the Media Council of Kenya’s report, Navigating the Digital Reality.
The findings underscore the country’s strong mobile-first culture, where handheld devices have become the primary source of news, entertainment and social media engagement.
Other devices trail significantly. Smart TVs account for 4.4 per cent of users, while laptops stand at 2.5 per cent. Radio and desktop computers each register 0.8 per cent, and tablets rank lowest at 0.3 per cent.
The data suggests a declining reliance on fixed and broadcast technologies, as audiences increasingly prefer portable, internet-enabled platforms.
Heavy smartphone use highlights shifting consumer behaviour toward on-demand and personalised content.
The survey was conducted between October 17 and November 23, 2025, offering fresh insights into how Kenyans navigate the evolving digital landscape.
