The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has paid GH¢237 million to cocoa farmers for 50,000 metric tonnes of cocoa.

In a post on his Facebook page on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, Jerome Sam, Head of Public Affairs at COCOBOD, said the payment is intended to bring relief to farmers.

“I’m happy to report COCOBOD has started payment for the 50,000 metric tonnes. An amount of GH¢237 million has been paid,” he posted.

Here’s how much COCOBOD will save monthly from salary cuts

The payment comes at a time when Ghana’s cocoa sector is facing financial constraints, with calls from industry players, cocoa farmers, and the Minority in Parliament over arrears owed to farmers.

On February 12, 2026, the government announced major reforms to stabilize the sector and help offset COCOBOD’s growing debt.

As part of the reforms, Cabinet announced a new farm-gate price of GH¢41,392 per tonne, equivalent to GH¢2,587 per 64kg bag.

Meanwhile, COCOBOD has cut salaries of executive management by 20 percent and senior staff by 10 percent, a move expected to raise GH¢5 million monthly to help offset its debt.
