John Dramani Mahama has expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased
President John Dramani Mahama has confirmed the death of some Ghanaians in the terrorist attack at Titao, a village located in the province of Loroum in Burkina Faso, on Saturday, February 14, 2026.
A report by the BBC indicated that about 20 people died in the attack on Saturday.
Unconfirmed reports have also indicated that eight Ghanaians died in the attack.
Earlier, the government of Ghana, even though it acknowledged the attack, gave no indication that Ghanaians had lost their lives.
But speaking at the maiden Ghana Tree Crops Investment Summit and Exhibition on February 17, 2026, President Mahama stated that some Ghanaians lost their lives during the attack, even though he did not give details on the number of deaths.
“We live in a dangerous sub-region… Recently, some traders from Ghana went to Burkina Faso to buy tomatoes. They were ambushed in a village where they were transiting, and armed insurgents attacked.
“Unfortunately, we lost a number of patriots; happily, a few survived,” he said.
The president added that the Ghana Armed Forces is working on bringing the Ghanaians who survived the attack back home to continue their rehabilitation.
“The Ghana Army is arranging to medivac them from Burkina Faso, so that those who are injured can continue to receive treatment here in Ghana. On behalf of government and the people of Ghana, we express our condolences to the families of those who were either killed or have been injured,” he added.
