Dual Mode Of Transmission Will Draw Nigeria 100 Miles Back – Obidient Movement – Independent Newspaper Nigeria

LAGOS – The Obidient Movement has expressed dissatisfaction with the senate’s adoption of dual mode of transmitting election results, saying that it will draw Nigeria 100 miles back, giving room for manipulation and chaos.

Dr. Tanko Yunusa, National Coordinator, Obidients Movement, who stated this in a chat with Sunday Independent, noted that it’s the duty of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to determine the areas that have network connectivity and not the senate.

On whether he was satisfied with the senate’s approval of dual mode of transmission, he said, “I must confess, I’m not satisfied, because it just draws us back another 100 miles behind. Because we’re thinking that we’re taking a step ahead and then they’re drawing us back.

“Let me give an example on the issue of transmission of results. To transfer means that you just come into your home, you transfer money. But to transmit relies on the bank and their internet work.

“Immediately, the person that you sent the money to will receive the alert. That’s what we’re talking about. Is it not shameful for any of our senators to come out and tell us that there’s no network in his area?

“That person is not fit to represent the people. Because he has failed to bring development to his people. India has a population of 1.7 billion people. They conduct elections in one day. They give out results in one day. Now you’re talking of an election and you said, in case there’s no network in certain areas.

“What you need to do is use all the money that’s being stashed away and provide those amenities and services to the people in the rural areas. That’s what they should do.

“And besides, it’s not their duty to say whether there’s no network in one area or the other. It’s the INEC that will tell Nigerians that there’s no service at a particular area. If you should interview INEC, the Commission will tell you that they have overcome that.

“Why do we encourage and give room for corruption in every aspect of our lives? Personally, I’m not satisfied with that particular position. It’ll create chaos. Because at any point, anybody can say there’s no network.”
