The Director-General of the Petroleum Directorate of Sierra Leone, Foday Mansaray, has called for stronger and more sustainable energy collaboration between Sierra Leone and Nigeria.
In a statement made available to PUNCH Online on Friday, Mansaray made the call during an official visit to OILDEN Energy in Lagos, where he underscored the importance of regional cooperation in advancing Africa’s energy security and industrial growth.
According to the statement, Mansaray said, “the visit provided an opportunity for both parties to explore areas of mutual interest, particularly in technology transfer, capacity building, and investment expansion within the downstream petroleum sector.”
The petroleum chief commended the firm’s growing footprint in Sierra Leone, noting that its presence has contributed to job creation and enhanced technical expertise among local professionals.
He emphasized that partnerships built on sustainability and knowledge exchange would deliver long-term benefits for both countries.
Mansaray further stressed the need for West African nations to strengthen intra-African trade and leverage shared expertise to reduce dependence on imports while promoting local value addition in the oil and gas industry.
In his remarks, the company’s Managing Director, OILDEN Energy, Mr. Oluwatoni Oladiran, described the visit as a milestone that reflects deepening bilateral relations within the region’s energy space.
He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to operational excellence and to supporting industrial self-sufficiency across West Africa.
The engagement, stakeholders say, signals growing momentum toward enhanced cooperation between Sierra Leone and Nigeria in the energy sector, with expectations of broader collaboration in the near future.
