Zonda Tec Ghana has officially launched Chery, introducing what it describes as a “super-premium” SUV range spanning petrol, electric, and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models — a move the company says reflects growing confidence in Ghana’s evolving automotive market.

The launch showcased five models targeting the executive and upper-middle segments: the Chery Tiggo 2, Tiggo 7, and Tiggo 9 SUVs, as well as the fully electric ICAR 03 and ICAR V23.

Speaking to Citi Business News on the sidelines of the event, CEO Madam Yang Yang outlined the line-up:

“This evening’s gathering is to showcase different series of Chery vehicles, Chery Tiggo 2, Chery Tiggo 7, Tiggo 9, and ICAR: Tiggo 2 is the most affordable vehicle, and Tiggo Seven is the most economical vehicle, Tiggo 9 is the most luxurious vehicle, and ICAR is purely EV. You can take the EV for more than 400KM. So, they are the perfect products for Ghanaians.”

The Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 9 are positioned to compete in the premium SUV category, while the Tiggo 2 is aimed at younger professionals seeking entry-level luxury.

The ICAR 03 and ICAR V23 reinforce Chery’s entry into Ghana’s electric vehicle market. Madam Yang Yang also emphasised plans for local assembly and job creation:

“For this vehicle to be assembled in Ghana and per CHERY’s requirements, we have to establish a state-of-the-art, massive automated assembly plant. For that assembling plant, we are going to employ over 200 staff who are working on the automated assembly line, and we have to do training on technology and knowledge transfer.”

She linked the investment to the government’s industrial agenda:

“Under President Mahama’s regime, the purpose of the 24-hour economy is to boost the economy and to motivate the entrepreneurs to open more factories, to create more employment and to train more workers. Zonda’s assembling line really aligns with that agenda.”

On quality and customer experience, she added:

“As for Zonda, we’re supplying our Ghana customers the most affordable yet luxurious vehicles. Our vehicles are all SUVs. It is good for Ghana’s roads. That’s why you are enjoying luxury with Zonda with affordability. We have established the most luxurious showrooms like our Jolo branch. It’s two floors because we want to give our customers the best environment to purchase the vehicle and we want to give our customers the best after-sales service.”

Ghana’s SUV market has expanded in recent years, driven by rising urban incomes, improved financing options, and demand for higher-riding vehicles. Chery’s entry — backed by a five-year warranty — is expected to intensify competition among established Asian and European brands.
