A downpour has wreaked havoc at Asante Jamasi in the Sekyere South Municipality of the Ashanti Region, destroying more than 17 houses and leaving hundreds of residents homeless.

The rain also severely damaged the Jamasi Methodist Primary School, where four classrooms were ripped apart, forcing teaching and learning activities to a halt.

Although no casualties were recorded, victims have made urgent appeals to authorities for relief support.

Some affected residents, speaking to the media, recounted their ordeal and pleaded for assistance.

“We are stranded with nowhere to go. All our properties have been destroyed, so we are appealing to the authorities to come to our aid,” Maame Serwaa, a victim, lamented.

Confirming the incident, the Asante Jamasi National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Officer, Madam Juliana Addai, said about 70 to 80 people had lost properties estimated at GH¢300,000.

She disclosed that a detailed report would be submitted to the Municipal Assembly to enable swift intervention.
