Interior Ministry begins vetting for historic Diaspora Community Citizenship

The Ministry of the Interior, in collaboration with the Diaspora Affairs Office at the Office of the President, has announced the commencement of vetting for the granting of citizenship to members of the “Historic Diaspora Community.”

The vetting process will begin on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at the Dubois Centre in Cantonments, Accra, with applicants scheduled in batches.

The Ministry has advised applicants to wait for official notification of their vetting schedule before visiting the centre to prevent overcrowding.

The Ministry noted that, due to the large number of applicants and the limited timeframe ahead of the ceremonial swearing-in scheduled for March 5, 2026, not all interested persons will be able to participate in the process.

In a post on its Facebook page, the Interior Ministry said, “Applicants are also advised to wait for notification on their vetting schedule from the Ministry before visiting the centre to avoid overcrowding. The Ministry acknowledges that due to the overwhelming number of applicants and the limited time frame for the ceremonial swearing-in scheduled for 𝟓𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, not all interested persons will be able to participate in the process.”

This initiative forms part of Ghana’s ongoing efforts to strengthen connections with its diaspora and formally recognise individuals of Ghanaian descent who have made historical contributions abroad.
