Dear GhanaWeb,

My boyfriend was arrested six months ago. He was a thief, I knew that because he often had different items and used to give me some of them.

I made him confess to me. He said he wasn’t an armed robber; he and two other friends only went out at night to snatch things from wealthy people in town and return home peacefully.

They stole phones, money, computers, and many other items. Sometimes they would bring about 50 phones home and sell them all. They also brought in large sums of money at times.

He said they didn’t hurt anyone, and he assured me he would stop once he saved enough money to start a business. He even began saving with me. The money is in his account, but I have the banking app and password, so I checked it.

I also have his ATM card and PIN, I took them when I heard about his arrest. I was afraid he might be forced to empty his account, so I withdrew all the money in it, over GH¢600,000. I also have some phones, computers, bags, and a few other items that I took from his room for safekeeping.

I haven’t heard from or seen him since the arrest. I was only informed about it, and no one has contacted or approached me until now. His family didn’t know me, only his friends did. I haven’t tried to see him because I don’t want anything linked to me.

I want to leave the country and start my life over. I don’t want him to return later and question me or threaten me. I was there for him and advised him to stop, but he said he had a target.

Now that he is gone, I don’t blame myself because I tried. I don’t want him to return and expect anything from me or demand his money back. I know it’s risky, but can I use the money? Will I be judged if I travel with it? What should I do now?
