Ghanaian content creator Obolo has attributed key decisions in her adult life—including entering a long-term relationship at a young age and remaining unmarried for over three decades—to her early exit from formal education.

Speaking on The Delay Show, Obolo said she dropped out of school after Class 6, admitting she lacked confidence in her academic ability and was afraid to transition to JSS.

“I became a school dropout because I wasn’t brilliant. I was scared,” she said.

According to her, leaving school pushed her into early independence and informal work, particularly trading, which exposed her to adult responsibilities and relationships much earlier than her peers.

It was during this period that she met her partner in Koforidua at about 21 years old, while he was approximately 35.

Though initially hesitant about the age difference, Obolo said she eventually accepted his proposal after observing his persistence and sense of responsibility.

“I later realized it was better to have a mature person as a husband,” she said.

The relationship, however, was never formalized through marriage.

Obolo explained that although her partner expressed interest in marrying her, circumstances delayed and eventually prevented a wedding.

The couple instead went on to build a family, living together for 34 years. Their first child is now 34 years old, reflecting the length of the union.
