Controversial musician, Wanlov De Kubolor, has reignited the galamsey debate, accusing officials of the current government of being complicit in illegal mining in a new freestyle.

Riding on the trending ‘WYFL Riddim’ featuring Ohemaa Dadao, Wanlov, born Emmanuel Owusu-Bonsu, released a one-minute freestyle calling directly on President John Dramani Mahama to act decisively against galamsey.

In the viral clip shared on social media, the alternative music star is seen wearing only his signature waist cloth and holding two water containers. He draws attention to worsening water shortages in parts of Accra, particularly Teshie, and links the crisis to rivers polluted by illegal mining.

Wanlov questioned efforts to clamp down on galamsey, suggesting that some government officials may be part of the problem.

“So the galamsey wossop, you be ok with am? Beh you know your government officials more dey do some?” he sung in Pidgin.

He also highlighted the wider impact of galamsey, including health risks from contaminated water and the rejection of Ghanaian farm produce by international buyers.

Speaking on behalf of the youth, Wanlov criticised the burning of excavators, warning that it leaves young people jobless and vulnerable to crime. He urged the government to introduce sustainable solutions and provide viable, dignified alternatives for the youth.

“All kinds of schooling for be free, they want learn, earn and live in dignity. So abeg put things on ground cause we no dey see top,” he added.

The freestyle has drawn widespread praise online, with many applauding Wanlov for his blunt delivery, urgency and strong social commentary.
