Dr Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo is the Minister of Labour, Jobs and Employment Dr Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo is the Minister of Labour, Jobs and Employment

The Minister of Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, has announced that government will this year roll out the Ghana Labour Market Information System, a national digital platform designed to bring all public and private sector job opportunities into one place to make job search easier, fairer, and more transparent.

‎Speaking in an interview on the GTV Breakfast Show on Monday February 9, 2026, Dr Pelpuo said the platform, scheduled for launch in 2026, will allow employers to advertise vacancies and enable job seekers especially young people to apply directly online without protocol or human interference.

‎According to him, the system will serve as a single national hub where all job openings in Ghana will be published, applications processed, and responses given to applicants.

He explained that once an organisation posts a vacancy on the platform, it is declaring to the public that the job is real and available.

‎“You will no longer need to write letters or look for connections when jobs are announced,” he said. “If an institution is recruiting, you simply go onto the platform, apply, and receive feedback there.”

‎Dr Pelpuo stressed that both state institutions and private sector organisations will be required to use the platform, adding that fake or non-existent vacancies will not be allowed. He said the initiative is part of government’s broader efforts to open up job opportunities and reduce frustration among unemployed youth.

‎‎Touching on industrialisation, the Minister questioned claims that several factories were functioning under the One District, One Factory policy, particularly in his Upper West Region.

He said many of the factories described as operational were either incomplete or were already in existence before the policy was introduced.

‎Dr Pelpuo explained that when a parliamentary committee visited some of the factories while he was in opposition, they discovered that several of them were not producing, while others had been operating long before the policy was announced.

‎He clarified that government supports genuine public-private partnerships (PPPs) that create real jobs, but said such arrangements are different from claims of building one factory in every district.

He added that the current government believes in continuity and will support any viable factory project inherited from previous administrations.

‎On the global shift towards climate-friendly development, Dr Pelpuo said green energy and green jobs are now a major priority for government. He noted that climate change considerations must guide Ghana’s production processes to support resilience and sustainable growth.

‎‎The Minister also highlighted job opportunities being created through major infrastructure projects, including road construction under the 24-hour economy initiative.

He dismissed claims that such jobs are not real, explaining that long-term projects will employ engineers and other professionals for years and provide income that can help workers invest in other businesses.

‎‎Dr Pelpuo expressed confidence that the Labour Market Information System, combined with private sector growth and green job initiatives, will significantly expand employment opportunities and give young Ghanaians a fair chance to compete for jobs across the country.
