The Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo, has stated that the New Patriotic Party is unsettled by the government’s 24-Hour Economy policy.

Speaking recently in Parliament, Adongo clarified that the initiative is not confined to agriculture or industry.

He emphasised the need for effective coordination among government agencies to create an enabling environment for its successful implementation.

“You are beginning to shiver because somehow you thought the 24-hour economy was going to be like ‘Ghana Beyond Aid,’ Free SHS, ‘One District, One Factory’, or digitalization—initiatives that never had clear policies,” he said.

Adongo stressed that the initiative is backed by mechanisms to ensure plans are well thought out, funded, and implemented effectively.

He also criticised the NPP for failing to read the memorandum accompanying the bill, which clearly outlines the government’s intentions.

“We are implementing a policy backed by a coordinating mechanism that will ensure that whatever we want to do is well thought out and implemented and funded. And that is where NPP will remain in opposition for the next 30 years because of the 24-hour economy.

“If people had read the memorandum that came with the bill, they would have been clear what cabinet and the government of Ghana wants to do, and it is not our fault that you don’t read. The fact that you don’t read is not our fault,” he added.

Parliament has approved the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill, 2025, creating the 24-Hour Economy Authority to accelerate Ghana’s economic transformation.

The bill establishes the legal and regulatory framework for formalising the 24-hour economy, enabling the Authority to implement the government’s 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme, aimed at increasing productivity and fostering inclusive growth.
