The distribution of equipment under the pilot phase of the National Apprenticeship Programme (NAP) in the Volta Region has been described as a strong demonstration of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s commitment to youth empowerment and job creation.

The equipment, which arrived in the region last week, according to the Volta Regional Coordinator of the programme, has been successfully distributed across all eighteen (18) districts and officially handed over to the respective Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) for onward presentation to beneficiaries.

On Saturday, February 7, 2026, the South Tongu, Anlo and Keta districts held formal ceremonies to present the equipment to beneficiaries, including master craft persons and apprentices. The events attracted traditional authorities, including chiefs and queen mothers, party faithful and key stakeholders.

The ceremonies were attended by Members of Parliament for the beneficiary constituencies, Hon. Maxwell Lukutor (South Tongu), Hon. Dzidzorli Gakpe (Keta) and Hon. Sefe (Anlo), as well as the Municipal Chief Executives, Hon. Victoria (South Tongu), Hon. Sandra (Anlo) and Hon. Seade (Keta).

Speaking at the ceremonies, the Volta Regional Coordinator of the National Apprenticeship Programme, Mr Johnson Samlafo Korbla, commended the government led by President John Dramani Mahama for prioritising skills development and youth empowerment through practical interventions.

He noted that the pilot phase of the programme is targeting about 10,000 beneficiaries nationwide, with 740 beneficiaries drawn from the Volta Region, describing the initiative as a clear manifestation of the NDC government’s commitment to inclusive development.

Mr Korbla further disclosed that the Mahama-led administration is set to scale up the programme to cover 100,000 beneficiaries nationwide this year as part of efforts to tackle unemployment and equip young people with sustainable livelihood skills.

He expressed profound appreciation to President Mahama and the NDC government for implementing policies that directly impact the lives of ordinary Ghanaians, particularly the youth and artisans, adding that the Reset Agenda of the government is already yielding tangible results across the country.

According to him, the Volta Region remains a major beneficiary of government interventions, assuring residents that more development projects and empowerment programmes will continue to be rolled out to improve livelihoods.

The National Apprenticeship Programme forms part of the NDC government’s broader agenda to promote technical and vocational training, strengthen local industries and create sustainable employment opportunities for young people across the country.
