The Ghana Prisons Service (GPS) has issued a public warning over a fake TikTok account operating under the name ‘Ghana Prisons Service Protocol,’ cautioning the public against engaging with the page.

In a statement dated February 6, 2026, and signed by the Chief Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdul Latif Adamu, the Service said management’s attention had been drawn to the account, which is displaying images of the Director-General of Prisons and other prison-related activities.

According to the GPS, the TikTok page is not an official communication platform of the Service and does not represent its views, operations, or authority.

The Service stressed that it does not have any official account known as Ghana Prisons Service Protocol.

Government cautions against fake social media accounts

The statement strongly advised members of the public to exercise caution and refrain from engaging with, transacting business through, or relying on information shared by the fake account, warning that anyone who deals with the page does so entirely at their own risk.

The Prisons Service further clarified that all its official information and communications are disseminated only through recognised and duly authorised channels.

It listed its verified platforms as Facebook (Ghana Prisons Service and Ghana Prisons TV), TikTok (@ghana.prisons.service), X formerly Twitter (@ghanaprisons), and Instagram (@ghanaprisonsservice1).

The Ghana Prisons Service reaffirmed its commitment to public safety, emphasising its mandate of safe custody, reformation, and rehabilitation of inmates, while urging the public to remain vigilant against misinformation on social media.
