Ace Nigerian singer, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Face or 2Baba, has opined that the ongoing comparison of singer Wizkid with the late Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, is disrespectful.
Naija News recalls that Wizkid recently sparked outrage after claiming he is “bigger” than Fela in response to his son, Seun Kuti’s, criticisms of him and his fans.
Reacting in a snippet of the upcoming episode of the Mic On podcast, 2Face described the comparison as ridiculous, emphasising that it is both disrespectful to Fela’s legacy and unfair to Wizkid’s career.
The African Queen crooner explained that placing Fela and Wizkid side by side ignores their different eras, impacts, and unique contributions to Nigerian music.
He said, “Comparing Fela with Wizkid is ridiculous. Apart from the fact that it is disrespectful to Fela, and at the same time, it is also unfair to Wizkid.”
Meanwhile, Nigerian media personality, Yeni Kuti, has berated Nigerian singers who compare themselves to her father, Fela.
Yeni, who spoke in an interview with Arise TV after joining other family members to receive Fela’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2026 Grammys, stated that Fela’s continued relevance 29 years after his death speaks for itself.
According to Yeni, debates and comparisons with Fela miss the point of legacy.
She urged contemporary artists to respect Fela’s legacy and stop trying to diminish his achievements by comparing themselves with a dead man.
Yeni Kuti added that contemporary singers should compare themselves with their colleagues, not Fela.
