Asante Kotoko Sporting Club have marked one year since the tragic death of supporter Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley, who lost his life following violent incidents at Nsoatre.
In a solemn tribute released by the club, Kotoko remembered Nana Pooley as a passionate supporter whose life was cut short by what the club described as “mindless hooliganism,” stressing that such a tragedy must never happen again.
The Porcupine Warriors noted that Pooley was more than just a fan, highlighting his love for the game and the joy he brought to the stands, memories which they say can never be erased despite the violent circumstances surrounding his death.
Kotoko also used the occasion to call for continued justice, urging authorities and stakeholders to recommit themselves to ensuring that football centres across the country remain places of safety, unity and joy, free from violence.
“Football is a game of passion, community and joy,” the club said, adding that it was a travesty that Pooley was taken while doing what he loved most.
The statement concluded with an emotional message, acknowledging that while the game goes on, it is “less bright” without Nana Pooley, whose spirit, according to the club, lives on in every chant and every goal.
The tribute ended with a strong reminder: “Justice delayed is justice denied.”
