The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Bosiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, says the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is panicking over the party’s presidential primaries taking place across the country.

Speaking in an interview with JoyNews on Saturday, January 31, 2026, he said the NDC is closely monitoring developments and is unsettled by the direction the NPP has taken.

Kennedy, NAPO, Adutwum: What these NPP bigwigs have said about the primaries so far

“Actually, the NDC is panicking because of the decision we took. This exercise, the NDC is monitoring, and they are panicking, they are panting. So, after today, all the problems of the NPP will start going down, and we will give all the problems to the NDC to inherit,” he said.

Responding to questions about readiness for the 2028 general elections, he noted that the party’s approach will be guided by “science and data.”

Over 211,000 delegates are expected to cast their votes at more than 300 polling centres across the country.

Five candidates are contesting the NPP flagbearer race; former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Minister for Food and Agriculture Dr Bryan Acheampong, former Minister of Education Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, and former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong.
