The Effutu NPP leadership has denied allegations of delegate intimidation
The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Effutu Constituency of the Central Region has denied allegations that delegates were intimidated before, during or after the party’s presidential election held on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
In a statement issued to media houses on January 31, 2026, the constituency leadership described the claims as “false, unfounded and misleading.”
The leadership rejected suggestions that the integrity of the primary was compromised, insisting that the process was peaceful and transparent.
According to the statement, “the allegations of intimidation are being circulated primarily by a former Constituency Chairman, Theophilus Kojo Halm.”
The Effutu NPP leadership described the claims as “untrue, unfair, unfortunate and unnecessary,” arguing that they cast the constituency and the party in a negative light.
The statement further recalled that during the 2023 NPP presidential primary, Halm served as the chief campaigner for Kennedy Ohene Agyapong in the Effutu Constituency and similarly raised allegations of voter intimidation, which the party says were later proven to be untrue.
It added that in the 2026 presidential primary, Halm openly campaigned for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the constituency and has once again raised claims of intimidation against his own side claims the leadership insists are equally baseless.
The Effutu NPP leadership has therefore called on party members, supporters and advocates of multiparty democracy to disregard what it described as alarmist allegations, stressing that no delegate was intimidated at any stage of the primary.
