The Member of Parliament for Atwima Kwanwoma and former Deputy Defence Minister under the Akufo-Addo-led government, Kofi Amankwa-Manu, has commended delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for conducting themselves peacefully during the party’s presidential primary, saying they have clearly demonstrated the candidate they want to lead the party to victory in the 2028 general election.

Mr. Amankwa-Manu made the remarks after former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerged victorious in the NPP presidential primary held in the Atwima Kwanwoma Constituency of the Ashanti Region.

Dr. Bawumia polled 673 votes to secure a decisive win. His closest contender, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, obtained 358 votes, while Dr. Bryan Acheampong garnered 111 votes. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum polled 15 votes, and Kwabena Agyapong received 2 votes. Two ballots were rejected.

Out of an expected 1,242 delegates, a total of 1,159 valid votes were cast.

The results were officially declared by the District Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), Elizabeth Ohene, who pronounced Dr. Bawumia winner of the contest.

The voting exercise took place at the Twedie Technical Institute, commencing at 7:15 a.m. and ending at 2:00 p.m. The entire process was peaceful and orderly, with strong security presence to ensure safety.

Following the declaration, supporters of Dr. Bawumia were seen in spontaneous jubilation, singing and clapping to celebrate the outcome.

Mr. Amankwa-Manu subsequently called on all party members to close ranks and campaign massively to return the NPP to power.
