Professor Augustine Ocloo is the Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission
The youth of the Ketu South Constituency have appealed to President John Dramani Mahama not to bow to pressure to remove the Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Professor Augustine Ocloo.
According to the group, any attempt to remove Prof. Ocloo would be unnecessary, politically motivated and detrimental to institutional independence, particularly at a time when the tertiary education sector is grappling with complex challenges.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, January 26, 2026, and signed by Kwame Kekeli Zotoo on behalf of the youth group, the constituents argued that Prof. Ocloo is being unfairly targeted amid growing tensions surrounding the regulation and governance of tertiary institutions.
The statement stressed that Prof. Ocloo has consistently acted within his statutory mandate under the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020 (Act 1023), and has not engaged in any misconduct that would warrant his removal.
“Professor Augustine Ocloo has at all times operated within the confines of the law and discharged his duties professionally. Calls for his removal are unjustified and amount to scapegoating,” the group stated.
The youth further noted that the challenges facing the tertiary education sector are systemic and cannot be resolved by singling out individuals for blame.
“The problems confronting our tertiary institutions are structural and require dialogue, stakeholder engagement and institutional reforms, not personalised attacks,” the statement added.
They urged the government to uphold due process, protect institutional autonomy and engage broadly with stakeholders to address the root causes of unrest within the sector.

“Removing Prof. Augustine Ocloo will not resolve the challenges in the tertiary education sector and may further erode trust in regulatory institutions,” the statement emphasised.
The Ketu South youth reaffirmed their support for Prof. Ocloo and called on academics, students and civil society organisations to rally behind reforms anchored in consultation, fairness and respect for the rule of law.
