Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Bortianor‐Ngleshie Amanfro, Sylvester Tetteh, engaged in an exchange with Shamima Muslim, Deputy Presidential Spokesperson, on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on January 28, 2026.

The clash centered on criticisms of the administration led by President John Dramani Mahama, with both sides trading words over policies, economic management and recruitment in the health sector.

Tetteh accused the Mahama-led government of failing to deliver on promises, particularly regarding automatic recruitment of nurses and teachers and questioned the administration’s economic record.

He argued that the government’s own ministers had exposed weaknesses in its policies.

Not even Trump can compare himself to Mahama’s government – Opambour

“Your health minister, who sits in cabinet, says that you need 6 billion cedis to recruit all these nurses. He didn’t say you didn’t have vacancies. He said when you travel all over the country, there are a lot of vacancies, there are places that they are looking for nurses…you don’t have money. So, when you tout better economic indicators, it is exposing you by your own cabinet ministers. Stop making those allusions,” Tetteh said.

He further criticised the Mahama administration’s handling of infrastructure projects, insisting that the current government had to complete abandoned initiatives such as e-block schools and Agenda 111 facilities.

“Government is a continuum. Your e-blocks, didn’t you put money in some of the e-blocks and complete them? There were e-blocks schools you built in the bushes and we put additionals facilities…these are facts and you sit on TV…. If criticizing President Mahama, and you think it’s arrogance, we’ll be more arrogant in the coming days.”

The debate grew tense when Shamima Muslim challenged Tetteh’s claims about inflated contracts, prompting him to push back strongly.

“Please you can’t sit here and lie blatantly, please,” Shamima said.

Sylvester replied, “Please, choose your words carefully to say I’m lying…. I will not take this from you; I won’t take you calling me a blatant liar”

“I am saying what you said is a lie, “Shamima challenged him

Sylvester responded, “When I’m dealing, I deal with you as a lady and as a sister. I won’t take anything worse from you. Please, I’m very charitable this morning. Don’t go there. You don’t come to the station and insult.”
