Kofi Tonto, a member of the New Patriotic Party communications team, has called on the National Democratic Congress to prioritize fiscal discipline instead of debating the size of the cabinet.

Speaking on public expenditure, Tonto said Ghanaians are more concerned about curbing wasteful spending than counting how many ministers are appointed. He argued that the pressing issue for the NDC government is not the number of ministers President John Mahama names but the amount of public money they spend.

Excessive spending, Tonto noted, is what fuels frustration among citizens facing economic challenges such as high debt and inflation.

He urged for transparency in government budgets as a way to rebuild trust, rather than deflecting criticism or shifting blame.

Responding to NDC critiques of the incoming administration’s early actions, Tonto acknowledged that the NPP did not always get things right before the 2024 elections, emphasising that prudent governance is a shared responsibility.

His comments highlight ongoing partisan tensions but place the spotlight on practical solutions, shifting the conversation from symbolic appointments to tangible economic relief for ordinary Ghanaians struggling with rising costs.
