Member of Parliament for Bantama and former Minister for Roads and Highway Francis Asenso Boakye has urged delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to fulfill the will of overwhelming majority of NPP supporters by massively voting for former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in Saturday’s presidential primaries.

Addressing delegates and members of the NPP in Bantama on Monday, the MP said having visited many places around the country and also interacted with a number of party faithful, Dr Bawumia is the one members of the party favour to lead the party to the 2028 elections, so delegates with the privilege to decide, should vote in line with the will of the people.

“The other weekend I attended about four funerals and at each of them people were calling for Dr Bawumia. They warned me that our delegates should not make a mistake and not elect,” Asenso Boakye said.

“I was in church too and a Methodist Bishop called me aside and said we should be very careful and not make a mistake of replacing Dr Bawumia. That is what everybody is saying.”

The MP, who hailed the intellect, humility and vision of Dr Bawumia said his decision to back Bawumia is largely informed by the will of the people, as well as the tradition of the two leading political parties in Ghana retaining their already marketed presidential candidates.

“I am not a sentimental politician who takes decisions on sentiments. I analyse well and I go to where the majority of the people want,” he said.

“We all know that here in Ghana, none of the leading political parties makes the mistake of replacing a presidential candidate who has already been marketed to Ghanaians, especially when the main opponent will be presenting a new candidate.”

“The NPP, has on two occasions, repeated candidates who had already been marketed. We did that for President Kufuor and we did that for President Akufo-Addo.

“NDC also repeated Professor Atta Mills and President Mahama.”

Asenso Boakye further noted that with the popular will of the people behind Bawumia, coupled with the trend of retaining candidates, it will be

”the most unwise decision for the NPP not to retain Dr Bawumia for 2028.”

“I have gone to so many places in Ghana and I have spoken to so many people . The party, across the country, has decided to retain Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and I urge Bantama Constituency to be part of this great decision. So let us all be part of it and vote massively for Dr Bawumia on Saturday.”
