The Central East Regional Police Command has arrested a 42-year-old man, Alex Darko, over a viral video in which he allegedly published false information about the Ghana Police Service.
According to the police, the suspect was arrested at Awutu Bawjiase in the Central Region following intelligence-led operations.
This was contained in a statement issued by the police on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
“In the said video, the suspect was seen making very serious allegations, ‘It is the police that supply armed robbers with guns’ A statement with the tendency to create fear and panic among the public and also cause disaffection towards the police.

“Upon intelligence, a team of police officers from the Bawjiase District Police Command arrested the suspect at his hide-out at about 2:00am,” it said.
The police further stated that during investigations, the suspect admitted that he was the one seen in the viral video.
“During investigations, suspect Alex Darko admitted to being the one seen in the viral video and that he personally recorded it,” the statement said.

The police noted that the suspect was arraigned before the Ofaakor Circuit Court on the same day and has been remanded into police custody.
“He was put before the Ofaakor Circuit Court today, January 27, 2026, and has been remanded into Police custody to reappear on February 12, 2026,” the statement said.
The Central East Regional Police Command also cautioned the public against making unverified and inflammatory statements capable of undermining public confidence in security institutions.
“The Central East Regional Police Command wishes to caution the public against any such unfortunate statements,” the statement added.
