NPP flag-bearer race: Kumawu MP endorses Bawumia

By Samuel Ofori Boateng

Kumawu (Ash), Jan. 27, GNA – Mr Ernest Yaw Anim, Member of Parliament for Kumawu, has endorsed former Vice President, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia as the most credible candidate capable of leading the NPP to victory in the 2028 general elections.

According to the Kumawu MP, his position is informed by a careful and objecive assessment of the party’s current crop of presidential aspirants and the political dynamics expected to shape the next general elections.

He explained that the NPP’s success in 2028 would depend largely on presenting a candidate with broad national appeal, solid governance experience, and the capacity to unite the party, while attracting floating voters.

Mr Anim made these remarks in an interview with the media, ahead of the NPP’s flag-bearer primaries scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026.

He noted that, among the five aspirants contesting the party’s presidential slot, Dr. Bawumia clearly stood out as the most marketable and credible option.

He cited the former Vice President’s extensive experience in public service, economic management, and governance, describing him as a leader, who had consistently demonstrated competence at the highest level of government.

The Kumawu MP stressed that, Dr. Bawumia had over the years proven to Ghanaians that he possessed the vision, intellect, and leadership qualities required to steer the affairs of the nation.

He added that, Dr. Bawumia’s record in office, coupled with his calm demeanor and policy-driven approach to politics, placed him ahead of the other contenders.

Mr Anim further observed that, the 2028 general elections were expected to be highly competitive, making it imperative for the NPP to field a candidate, who could clearly articulate policies, connect with ordinary Ghanaians across all regions, and commanded credibility both locally and internationally.

In his assessment, Dr. Bawumia embodied these attributes more than any of the other aspirants.

He, therefore, urged delegates of the New Patriotic Party to exercise wisdom and foresight during the upcoming primaries, emphasizing that, the decision taken on January 31, 2026, would have far-reaching implications for the party’s fortunes in the 2028 general elections.

Reaffirming his personal support, Mr Anim expressed strong confidence that Dr. Bawumia, if elected as the party’s flag-bearer, would successfully lead the NPP into the 2028 elections and secure victory for the party.
