The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr Bryan Acheampong, has questioned the commitment of fellow aspirant Kennedy Agyapong to peace and unity within the party following his initial reluctance to sign a peace pact document.

According to the NPP’s Elections Committee, the peace pact document was distributed to all aspirants several days ahead of the official signing ceremony. However, during the ceremony, Kennedy Agyapong initially declined to sign the document, citing concerns about a particular clause.

The incident, which was broadcast live on television, sparked public debate within party circles.

Following the controversy, Kennedy Agyapong claimed there was an error in the document.

He specifically alleged that Dr Bryan Acheampong signed in a space meant for him and further accused some of the aspirants of failing to properly read through the document before appending their signatures.

In response, Dr Acheampong challenged Kennedy Agyapong’s stance, questioning his willingness to uphold party unity.

“He did not want to sign,” Dr Acheampong said while addressing party delegates in a video that has since surfaced.

“He squeezed his face in anger and said he wouldn’t sign,” he added.

Dr Acheampong dismissed claims that the refusal was merely procedural, insisting the footage clearly shows Kennedy Agyapong’s resistance.

“Kennedy said he wouldn’t sign because he was not in agreement with some clauses. Go and watch the video. He said he won’t sign,” he stated.

“We told him, ‘Sign the document and let’s go,’ but he frowned, squeezed his mouth, and said he wouldn’t sign. Didn’t you see it? The cameras were there,” Dr Acheampong emphasized.

He further stressed that signing the peace pact is a critical requirement for anyone seeking to lead the party.

“The signing of the peace pact is important. If you refuse to sign it, your campaign is effectively over,” he warned.

Dr Acheampong also expressed doubt about Kennedy Agyapong’s ability to support peace and unity within the NPP after the elections, particularly if he fails to secure victory.

“If you cannot commit to peace now, how can you be trusted to support unity after the elections if you lose?” he questioned.
