The National Identification Authority (NIA) has intensified efforts to protect the integrity of Ghana’s national identity system by organising a one-day orientation and training programme for officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.

The training, held on January 23, 2026, at the NIA Headquarters, was part of preparations to deploy CID officers to all 16 regions to support investigations related to the registration of the Ghana Card.

The session focused on deepening the officers’ understanding of NIA operations and equipping them with the skills required to investigate activities connected to the Ghana Card registration process.

Participants were taken through the Authority’s policies on first-time issuance of the Ghana Card, records update procedures, and common infractions committed by applicants and staff, supported by operational data and practical case experiences from the NIA CID Unit.

The programme also covered investigative procedures, system integrations, and technical processes, offering officers practical insights into safeguarding data integrity within Ghana’s national identity ecosystem.

Officers who participated in the training described it as practical, informative, and highly relevant, noting that it has better prepared them to support investigations and data protection efforts at the regional level.

In a related development, the NIA has further enhanced its internal capacity by organising a four-day ISO certification training programme for its staff. Conducted in four cohorts, the training focused on Information Security Management Systems and IT Service Management, aimed at strengthening staff knowledge of international best practices in data security and service delivery.

According to the Authority, these capacity-building initiatives form part of its broader commitment to institutional strengthening, operational excellence, and compliance with internationally recognised standards, reinforcing the NIA’s position as a world-class identity service provider.
