Political scientist and development scholar Dr Kwabena Bomfeh Jnr has argued that the political noise surrounding former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta will have little impact on his prosecution.

According to him, a successful prosecution depends solely on due diligence and adherence to legal processes, rather than public uproar and picketing.

His comments come after days of demonstrations by some pressure groups in the country calling for the early deportation of Ken Ofori-Atta.

Speaking on NewsFile on JoyNews on January 24, 2026, Dr Bomfeh stressed that the pursuit of justice must be guided by professionalism and respect for due process, rather than political noise.

Ken Ofori-Atta faces US court over visa revocation, possible extradition to Ghana

“To achieve successful prosecution requires due diligence, patience, soberness, tact, and diligence, not political noise. This hullabaloo of ‘Ken must come, if he doesn’t come,’ as if we are disabled by law from pursuing justice, is misplaced,” he stated.

He added that accountability should not be measured solely by whether a suspect is physically present, but by whether legal processes are properly followed and formal responses to charges have been submitted.

Dr Bomfeh further warned against portraying the exercise of constitutional rights as an attempt to evade justice, arguing that such framing undermines the principles of the rule of law.

“So why is it that we are making it seem as though, if a person exercises his right under our very Constitution, then he is running away from accountability?” he asked.

Ken Ofori-Atta appeared before a United States court on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, following actions taken by US immigration authorities over his legal status in the country.

He was apprehended by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on January 6, 2026, at his residence in the Westlight Building in Washington, DC, after the revocation of his visa in mid-2025.
