Akua, daughter of the taxi driver allegedly shot by a policewoman on January 19, 2026, at Tetegu in Accra, has spoken in an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb TV.

According to her, her father was not known to be someone who liked to quarrel or fight, saying she cannot understand what might have provoked such an extreme act.

Akua explained to GhanaWeb’s Victoria Kyei Baffour that she first heard the news while at Amasaman, where she lives, and described her father as calm, playful, and non-confrontational.

“I heard about the shooting incident yesterday. I don’t live with them; I am at Amasaman. I was told that my father had been shot by a policewoman. None of us knows what exactly he did to her that warranted such a shooting. My father doesn’t like to fight or quarrel, especially with children or women, because he sees them as fragile.

“… There’s no one who can say that my father liked to quarrel or fight. He was very playful. Even with men, he could defend himself, but fighting was something he would never do,” Akua said.

She further stated that her father was shot three times, questioning the motive behind the shooting, and adding that from videos she had seen, she saw her father still in his driver’s seat during the encounter.

“So, what kind of argument could make someone so angry that they would shoot him? According to the story, he wasn’t shot once; he was shot three times. No one could tell what was going on or what they were discussing. From the videos I have watched, he was seated in his driver’s seat,” an emotional Akua added.

The late driver’s daughter said accounts from the area claimed the incident may have stemmed from a disagreement over transport fare or a refusal to drive the policewoman to her preferred destination.

“Witnesses reported hearing an argument before the driver parked his car, followed shortly by gunshots. Some said it might have been about the transport fare that she didn’t want to pay. Others claimed he refused to take her to the place she wanted, but she kept insisting. People in the area said they heard the argument until he parked his car, and then later they heard the gunshots,” she recounted.

Meanwhile, a team from the Greater Accra Police was also at the family home of the late taxi driver to console and commiserate with the family.

Investigations into the matter is currently ongoing.
