Former Ghana Black Maidens and Black Princesses midfielder, Kate Adu Agyemang has publicly called out the Ghana Football Association (GFA) over the non-payment of bonuses owed to members of the 2015 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifying team.

In a video circulating online, Adu Agyemang reminded authorities that more than a decade after helping Ghana secure qualification, players are yet to receive $8,000 each in outstanding bonuses.

“I am making this video to petition, to remind the Ghana Football Association, the President of the Ghana Football Association, the Minister of Sports, that if they have forgotten that they still owe the 2015 women’s qualifying team to the World Cup, then this is a reminder petitioning them to do what is right by us,” she said.

The team in question qualified for the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Papua New Guinea. At the tournament, Ghana endured a difficult campaign, finishing bottom of their group with two points.

Two Years On: The night Richard Ofori touched the ball

They lost their opening match to New Zealand before holding France and the United States to draws. Adu Agyemang featured in all three group-stage matches as the Black Princesses exited at the first hurdle.

“It has been over 12 years now since they owed us $8,000. $8,000 may not be a lot of money to them or to a lot of people, but to the people who sacrificed their lives and their time for this is very essential for them,” she stressed.

Some members of that squad, including Ernestina Abambilla, Sandra Owusu Ansah and Princella Adubea, have since progressed to represent the senior national team, the Black Queens.

Adu Agyemang is now urging her former teammates to speak up.

“If you are part of the team that you have been owed this money, I hope you can get on this trend so we can get them to hear our voices because 12 years is enough and we can’t let this keep going on,” she added.
