Adidome residents appeal to GHA for urgent road rehabilitation

Residents of Adidome, in the Central Tongu District, have appealed to the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) to prioritise the rehabilitation of the Adidome township roads in the Authority’s next intervention schedule.

They explained that parts of the Adidome–Sogakofe junction stretch leading to the Riverside area had deteriorated, affecting vehicular movement and safety, and called for urgent technical attention to ensure a durable and long-term solution for residents and road users.

The residents, through Mr Guggisberg Fiagbenu, the Assembly Member of the Adidome Central Electoral Area, made the appeal during an ongoing community-led initiative to patch potholes on portions of the road, an intervention they described as a temporary measure aimed at mitigating the challenges while awaiting a more comprehensive government response.

The self-help exercise is being undertaken by volunteer youth artisans, particularly concrete workers, led by Mr Courage Sabah, with support from some local institutions.

“The Central Tongu Fire Service provided water for the works, while the Central Tongu District Police Command ensured orderly traffic flow. Dela Radio also supported public sensitisation on safety protocols throughout the operation as Ababio Millicent provided our hard-working brothers with food,” Mr Fiagbenu mentioned.

The Assembly Member stated that drivers, shop owners amongst others, made donations and cooperated with traffic arrangements to facilitate the work, which is approximately 65 per cent complete.

He said that the next phase is expected to continue with rekindled communal spirit in the Electoral Area, with more youth expressing readiness to join subsequent phases.

He reaffirmed the community’s commitment to supporting development initiatives and expressed optimism that the relevant authorities would respond positively to the appeal.
