The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has called on all flagbearer aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to campaign with decorum, pointing out the importance of unity within the party.

Speaking at the Peace Pact signing involving the five NPP presidential aspirants on Thursday January 22, 2026, Afenyo-Markin, stated that the future of the party and the country depended on maintaining discipline and civility.

“Let us rise above short-term emotions. Let us protect the party that has given us a voice. Our party depends on this and Ghana is counting on us.

“This peace pact is not only about who wins on January 31; it is about whether on February 1 and beyond, the NPP will still be strong, united and credible in the eyes of Ghanaians”, he noted.

He further noted that a united party is formidable while a divided one suffers setbacks.

“Whenever the NPP is united, it is formidable and whenever it is divided, it bleeds and Ghana pays the price,” he remarked.

The Minority Leader warned against public confrontations, insults and unsubstantiated allegations, urging aspirants to accept differing outcomes with humility and place the national project above personal interests.

“Every single insult, every unsubstantiated allegation, every attempt to demonize a rival today becomes a weapon in our opponent’s hand tomorrow,” he said.

Afenyo-Markin reminded the party that internal divisions during the primary contests do not stay within the party alone but can impact national governance.

“A fractured NPP does not only risk losing another election; it risks undermining the very progress our nation is striving to achieve,” he cautioned.

The party has slated its presidential primary for January 31, 2026.
