Accra, Jan 21, GNA – Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED Ghana) and the Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Service have signed a partnership to promote the rights of females and persons with disability in TVET institutions.
The Memorandum of Partnership (MoP), signed on Wednesday, January 21, provides a framework for collaboration on programmes of mutual interest and shared priorities.
A release copied to the Ghana News Agency said CAMFED Ghana would work with the Ghana TVET Service to integrate CAMFED’s Learner Guide Programme into TVET schools.
“The organisations will also champion the TVET rights of females and persons with disability through advocacy and policy engagement, while promoting the TVET sector in Ghana overall,” it said.
Under the agreed framework, the Ghana TVET Service would inform CAMFED’s alumnae network, known as the CAMFED Association (CAMA), about opportunities for training, apprenticeship and employment within the TVET sector.
It said CAMFED Ghana would, in turn, support the Ghana TVET Service to model CAMFED’s give-back programme and institutionalise an alumni programme modelled around the CAMA network.
The agreement further states that the two institutions would collaborate to promote child protection and safeguarding practices in the TVET sector in line with CAMFED’s Child Protection Policy and Code of Practice.
“It is CAMFED’s firm belief that the working partnership with Ghana TVET Service will be a huge step towards promoting participation of females in male-dominated TVET areas, while integrating some of its best practices in the TVET sector as part of its systems transformation agenda,” the release added.
The Ghana TVET Service, an agency under the Ministry of Education, was established by the Pre-Tertiary Education Act, 2020, as a corporate body to manage, oversee and implement approved national policies and programmes relating to pre-tertiary technical and vocational education and training.
It is mandated to ensure effective regulation, coordination, standardisation and quality of instruction in TVET, recognising the sector as a key driver of Ghana’s industrialisation agenda.
In August last year, CAMFED Ghana signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) to champion the entrepreneurial rights of young women through advocacy and policy engagement.
The partnership sought, among other objectives, to deepen the work of District Business Committees while mainstreaming child protection and safeguarding practices in skills development training for Ghanaian youth.
