The University for Development Studies (UDS) Alumni Association of Ghana has, in a strong show of unity, elected Master Paul Akanvariwen Asianab as its National President for a four-year term.

The election was conducted by popular acclamation at a gathering held at the University of Ghana, Legon campus, where a majority of alumni present expressed confidence in his leadership abilities.

Eight regional chapters participated in the process, each sending 20 delegates to the event. The delegates unanimously endorsed Mr Asianab, a decision that was affirmed by national executives and dignitaries in attendance, including the chair of the event, Vice Chancellor of UDS and fellow alumnus, Prof Seidu Al Hassan.

Mr Asianab previously served as National Organising Secretary for eight years across two terms and played a key role in expanding the alumni network nationwide. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Greater Accra, Bono, Ashanti, Upper East, Western, and Central regional chapters.

In his acceptance remarks, Mr Asianab outlined his vision for the Association, pledging to work closely with alumni and past executives to review the constitution, rebrand the Association to make regional chapters more vibrant and attractive, improve communication channels, and introduce sustainable fundraising initiatives to support development.

Career Transition
Mr Asianab is a proud alumnus of UDS, having obtained his first degree from the University between 2002 and 2006 as part of the inaugural batch at the Wa campus. He later earned an MPhil degree from UDS between 2013 and 2015. He worked at the University from 2001 until 2024 before being reassigned to the C K Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences, formerly the Navrongo campus of UDS.

Over a period spanning more than two decades, Mr Asianab served UDS in various administrative roles. He began his career as a Messenger and Cleaner in the Finance Office and steadily rose through the ranks to become an Assistant Registrar, serving in several departments and schools within the University.

In 2024, he transitioned to C K Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences as a Senior Assistant Registrar, continuing his long standing commitment to higher education administration in northern Ghana.

Alumni Leadership Role
Listed professionally as Paul Akanvariwen Asianab with bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Administrators and Management Consultants Ghana and the Chartered Institute of Human Resource Practitioners Ghana, he brings extensive organisational and administrative experience to his new role.

His election marks a new chapter for the UDS Alumni Association, with high expectations that his leadership will strengthen alumni engagement, enhance institutional ties, and promote growth across all regional chapters.
