Stonebwoy inspired me to go into Reggae music

Popular Ghanaian comedian-turned-reggae artiste, David Oscar Dogbe, has revealed that award-winning musician Stonebwoy played a pivotal role in inspiring his transition from comedy into music.

He made the disclosure during a candid interview on Talkertainment with host Elsie Lamar on GhanaWeb TV, where he recounted his journey from being a visual art student to a comedian and eventually finding his path in music.

According to him, his decision to leave comedy followed a painful betrayal by some colleagues from his comedy sector, an experience that plunged him into depression and left him uncertain about his next steps in the creative industry.

He explained that while rediscovering Reggae legends such as Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, it was Stonebwoy’s 2018 hit song ‘Run Go’ that became the defining moment.

“One day, we were at a place at Achimota where I used to live, and one brother came in, he was playing some records, and he started playing “Run Go”. I had never heard that song before, so I asked him ‘who is that artist?’ I was thinking he was going to mention some Jamaican artiste but he said Stonebwoy.

“I listened to the song, and it was like the song was telling me, ‘You can do this. This is you. This is where you have to go,’” he said.

David Oscar further revealed that when he later met Stonebwoy in Hamburg earlier this year, he shared the story with the BHIM Nation leader, describing him as the “final piece of the puzzle” that helped him rediscover himself creatively.

“Although I was older than Stonebwoy. That tells you that it’s not a wrong thing to learn from kids or somebody you might supposedly be older than.

“This is my story. At my age in the industry and given what I had accomplished, I had reached a point where I felt totally lost. I was recovering, but I still didn’t know what direction to go. It was Stonebwoy that showed me the path,” he said.

He praised Stonebwoy’s impact, describing him as a global force and highlighting the power of music to influence and transform lives beyond borders.
