Professor Francis Dodoo stands as one of Ghana’s most distinguished and respected sports administrators, a figure whose lifelong commitment to athletics, governance, and integrity has left an enduring mark on the nation’s sporting history. His recent swearing-in as Board Chairman of Ghana’s newly constituted Anti-Doping Board is both a recognition of his vast experience and a reaffirmation of trust in his principled leadership.

A former President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Professor Dodoo played a central role in shaping Ghana’s participation and presence on the Olympic stage. Under his stewardship, the Olympic movement in Ghana was strengthened through improved administration, adherence to international standards, and a renewed focus on athlete welfare and fair competition. His tenure was characterized by calm leadership, diplomacy, and an unwavering commitment to sport as a tool for national development and unity.

Professor Dodoo also served with distinction as President of Ghana Athletics, where he contributed significantly to the growth and organization of track and field in the country. At a time when athletics remained one of Ghana’s most successful sporting disciplines, his leadership emphasized structure, discipline, and long-term development, helping to nurture talent and uphold the values of excellence and fair play.

Beyond titles and offices, Professor Dodoo is widely admired for his depth of knowledge, quiet authority, and ethical approach to sports administration. His academic background has consistently informed his work, blending scholarship with practical leadership and ensuring that policy decisions are grounded in both global best practices and local realities.

His appointment as Chairman of the Ghana Anti-Doping Board comes at a critical moment for Ghanaian sport, as the global fight against doping intensifies and the demand for clean, credible competition grows. Leading a 13-member board, Professor Dodoo is tasked with guiding the nation’s anti-doping agenda, safeguarding the health of athletes, and protecting Ghana’s sporting reputation on the international stage. His leadership is expected to bring credibility, firmness, and education-driven enforcement to the anti-doping effort.

Professor Francis Dodoo’s journey reflects a lifetime of service to sport, marked by integrity, vision, and a profound commitment to fair competition. As he takes on this new responsibility, his legacy as a custodian of Ghanaian sport continues to grow, inspiring confidence that the future of clean sport in Ghana is in steady and capable hands.
