Prof. Frimpong-Boateng is not above NPP

The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has said that former Environment Minister, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng despite his status, must face accountability after calling the NPP a “fake party.”

His comments follow Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s description of the NPP as a “fake party” during an interview on The Point of View on Channel One TV on Monday, January 12. He accused the party leadership of abandoning its founding values—a statement that has drawn strong reactions from party officials.

Speaking on Channel One Newsroom on Tuesday, January 13, Nana B said the former minister’s statements undermine party unity and are unjustified, particularly given Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s own record in government.

“The party is supreme in terms of its membership. Nobody is above the party. He is a senior party person who has benefited from the party. He has been a Minister of State under the NPP government before. Today you turn round to make such disparaging and unfortunate remarks about the NPP. For me, if I had the powers, I would have expelled him long ago, but we have processes. That is why there is a recommendation before NEC. NEC will consider the expulsion of Prof. Frimpong-Boateng,” he said.

Nana B urged members to focus on constructive engagement to restore unity, rather than airing grievances publicly.

The NPP, through its General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, condemned the remarks as “highly reprehensible” and inconsistent with party values, also dismissing claims that the 2023 presidential primary was manipulated in favour of then Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Despite the party confirming that steps to expel him have begun, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng insists he remains a member and has refused to respond to invitations to appear before the National Executive Committee or the Disciplinary Committee.
