Ofori-Atta’s lawyer breaks silence on AG’s separate ‘mind-blowing’ findings in ongoing probe

Frank Davies, a former Minister of Finance and member of Ken Ofori-Atta’s legal team, has questioned both the existence and handling of a probe by the Attorney General into his client, separate from the SML case.

Dismissing the AG’s claims, Davies, in a January 12, 2026, JoyNews report, denied knowledge of any investigations initiated against Ofori-Atta regarding offshore dealings.

According to him, the Attorney General, Dr Dominic Ayine, has stated publicly that the investigations are inconclusive.

“There is no such investigation to the best of my knowledge. And he himself is saying that it’s not complete. So if it’s not complete, what is this business of?,” he is quoted to have said by a myjoyonline.com report.

Davies criticised Dr Ayine for publicly discussing an investigation he said has not been concluded, arguing that such conduct undermines due process.

“If the Attorney General said he is investigating something, he should terminate the investigation and charge, and stop coming on the radio and doing what he’s doing. That is not the work of the Attorney General,” he argued.

Davies’ remarks follow revelations by Dr. Ayine, who, in an earlier interview, confirmed that investigations, separate from the SML case, into the activities of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta are ongoing.

According to him, the probe involves both local and foreign investigators tracking offshore dealings linked to the former minister.

He disclosed that the investigation is still at an early stage and has not yet reached any conclusions.

“… I started investigating Ofori-Atta. In fact, in this case, I’m doing it with some foreign investigators who are tracking all the offshore dealings and so on. And then we are also doing our own investigations here. They are inconclusive, as we speak,” he said.

Dr Ayine emphasised that the current probe is separate from other high-profile investigations previously associated with the former finance minister.

Though he did not provide any details regarding the investigations, he described them as ‘potentially mind-blowing.’

“It’s different, totally different [from the SML investigations] and potentially mind-blowing, but I will not give any details at this point in time,” he added.
