Mr. Olusegun Mojeed, FCIPM, fnli, delivering his keynote address at the Blakskill event.

Lagos, Nigeria. 5/2/2024 – The President and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), Mr. Olusegun Mojeed, FCIPM, fnli delivered an insightful discourse at the Blakskill event, unveiling the anticipated HR trends, outlook, and requirements for 2024. These insights, marking a significant milestone as part of CIPM’s inaugural HR report in its 55-year history, were meticulously curated to provide valuable guidance to the global HR community.

Reflecting upon the continuously evolving field of human resources, the President elucidated on pivotal trends set to shape the industry in the forthcoming year. One of these transformative trends is the remote/hybrid work transformation. Acknowledging the enduring nature of remote and hybrid work settings, the President stressed the need for organisations to adapt to the changing dynamics. He affirmed that advanced communication technologies will persistently break down traditional barriers, empowering organisations to establish ‘teams without borders.’

Another significant trend highlighted for the upcoming year is the paradigm shift towards hiring for skills. The President articulated that recruiters and leaders are poised to redirect their focus to hiring based on skills rather than tenure experience, emphasizing that the global mobility of labor will make highly skilled candidates readily available and accessible to recruiters.

Additionally, he underscored the pivotal role that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will play in steering crucial HR activities, encompassing talent acquisition, performance management, employee services, and communication. The President indicated that AI’s data-driven approach will profoundly influence talent attraction and performance prediction, resulting in substantial time and resource savings.

Addressing the strategic importance of embracing diversity, the President posited that it is not only an ethical principle but also a competitive advantage. He affirmed that CIPM is committed to integrating diversity, equity, inclusion, and belongingness (DEIB) across all facets without compromising competence, aligning with relevant legislation such as the Discrimination Against Persons With Disabilities (Prohibition) Act.

The rising significance of employee well-being, mental health, and psychological counseling was also highlighted, indicating an increased focus on Employee Assistance Programs (EAP).

“Talents are increasingly advocating for pay transparency and equity. Employers are expected to embrace this principle to attract and retain top talents. Furthermore, the real sector, especially the manufacturing sector, will witness an upswing in unionism, collective bargaining, and industrial relations.”

The President further articulated that the rise of technology has facilitated on-the-go learning, emphasising the importance of continuous learning and performance. Organisations are anticipated to invest in training, anticipating a measurable impact on the bottom line.

“Legal, compliance, and cybersecurity considerations are also pivotal trends to note. HR is poised to heighten attention to legal, compliance, and cybersecurity matters to safeguard sensitive data and ensure the security of virtual communication channels,” he stated.

In conclusion, the President emphasised that the global talent marketplace represents a paradigm shift, urging organisations to embrace diversity, leverage technology, and address challenges proactively. The true power of the global talent marketplace lies in its potential to unleash human creativity and ingenuity, fostering positive change and collective progress.
