A video that has since gone viral shows the moment when the Fire Service was called to a fire scene and they showed up carrying only two cans of fire extinguishers and panting from tiredness.
The incident happened at Sunyani Magazine when a vehicle caught fire. The Fire station is a couple of minutes away from the fire scene. However, instead of the fire tender pulling up to get the fire under control, only two fire officers showed up holding fire extinguishers. The men in uniform could clearly be seen struggling to catch their breath after walking the short distance.
Their fitness as Fire Officers has been questioned by many. The sad part is, they could not even attempt to put out the fire because the extinguishers they brought along were no matched to the fire. They simply joined the crowd and watched on as the vehicle burned. The car was burning very close to an electric pole and yet they couldn’t do anything about it. Leaving the possibility of a worse situation in the hand of chance.
The question is who is to blame? There have several incidents where fire service officers show up without the right working gear to do their work. Is their failure and negligence or the lack of the right equipment?
