Likoni Floating Bridge.
A floating bridge is alos called a pontoon. A floating bridge is usually designed to use floats made of metals or plastic materials to support a continuous deck for pedestrian and vehicle movement.
The Likoni floating bridge was built by a Chinese-based company called China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC). The bridge measures about 840 metres long and a width measuring approximately 6 metres. It is equipped with a solid metallic barrier at the center to ensure separation of people moving in opposite direction.
Likoni floating bridge connects the city of Mombasa on Mombasa island to the mainland of Kenya. The bridge has helped in easing traffic congestion in the area by taking most of the foot traffic. Likoni bridge has also enhanced movement of ships in and out of the port by having a 150-metre movable section in the mid-ocean. The movable section allows opening and closing to enable the ship to pass through.
