A driver, operating in the ride hailing service industry in the port city of Sekondi-Takoradi is fighting for his life after he has been doused with petrol and set on fire.
The incident is said have happened at a neighborhood in the metropolis, called Bakano, and this was in the night, at about 10 pm, yesterday, (Wednesday, December 22, 2021).
The victim, a Bolt driver, reportedly suffered severe burns and was rushed to the Effia-Nkwanta regional hospital, where he is battling for life.
It is unclear, why the attack on the driver, who is believed to be a military man, doubling as a Bolt driver, to make additional income and build a solid life.
There is growing suspicion that this might have been a botched attempt to snatch his car. His assailant is on the run.
It is not uncommon, seeing many car-owning middle-class public and private sector workers including bankers, teachers and personnel of the security services, after close of work or when they are off-duty, doing a ride hailing service to generate extra income to strengthen their economic situation.
Separately, the police have arrested and taken into custody, two suspected armed robbers at Kaneshie in the Greater Accra Region.
Their names have been given as Chisom Nsube and Salvation Ebuka, who are all said to be aged, 28 years.
The two suspects, together with one other person, identified only as Award, who managed to slip through, allegedly attacked and robbed their victim at gun point, seizing from the victim cash of Ghs2,300 and a Vivo mobile phone.
Nsuba and Ebuka were arrested before they could escape with the cash and mobile phone. Award, however, was able to escape and he is now on the run.
The police have confirmed the incident in a statement posted on their official Facebook page.
The robbery attack happened on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, in the night.
The police statement said the two suspected violent criminals were arrested through police/public partnership at the South Industrial area, Accra.
