It was not a good sight at Bakanoo in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region when two armed robbers stormed one of the highways in the night. Their target was to rob drivers of their vehicles and the properties of passengers. They stopped one of the vehicles and told the driver to send them to Komfo Ase in Sekondi.
The innocent driver obliged and whilst on their way, they stopped the driver at the cemetery and demanded that he hand over the vehicle to them after they have robbed him of his money. They had gallons which unfortunately were containing petrol and immediately poured it on the driver. Soon after that, they set the driver ablaze whilst he was in the vehicle.
The helpless driver had to move out of the vehicle quickly to save his life. Fortunately for him, other vehicles came around and saved him by pouring more water from the close community on him. The two armed robbers tried to escape with the vehicle but time run out on them and decided to bolt after the crowd started coming to the scene.
The attention of the crowd was first to save the driver and that caused the armed robbers to run away from the scene. The driver who has sustained serious wounds has been admitted to the Effiankwanta Regional Hospital receiving treatment. He could be seen lying on one of the beds of the Hospital with bandages and cloth all over his body to treat the wounds.
An eye witness, Otto Mediruse who confirmed the incident to BeaNana indicated that they, unfortunately, could not meet the armed robbers at the scene. He says the youth in the area would have taken the laws into their hands and assassinated the armed robbers. They have since sworn to ensure the young armed robbers whose ages are around eighteen years will be apprehended. The Police command has also taken over the issue and investigations have begun.
In the meantime, residents along the road where the incident happened have called on authorities to install street lights in the area. Armed robbers have been hiding in the area robbing people at night due to darkness. They believe that the armed robbers could not have struck if the lightning system in the area was good.
The big issue is how eighteen-year-old young people decided to plan a robbery to the extent that they had to set their victims ablaze after they had robbed him of his money. This can as well be heartbreaking for the driver and his family. They could have killed him in the process.
