The Ministry of Education of Education has described the news making headlines that Senior High Schools will be Six (6) years in 2023 as fake and false news.
The Deputy Spokesperson For The Ministry, Mr. Opoku Mensah on Wednesday December 15th 2021 took to his Facebook page to clarify that SHS remains three years.
According Mr. Opoku Mensah, Senior High School remains 3 years and not 6 years as some media houses seek to broadcast. Our secondary education system spans from 3 years of Junior High school then transits to a 3 year Senior High School.
The Ministry of Education, led by Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, seeks to give a true meaning to Junior Secondary Education by equipping them to have similar experience and character as a Senior Secondary School.
“We will then have a full 6 years of Secondary Education System made up of 3 years Junior Secondary and 3 years Senior Secondary with similar experience and characteristics befitting of its value.” the Deputy Spokesperson clarified.
In related development, the PRO for the Ministry of Education, Mr. Kwasi Kwarteng, has also confirmed that.
He said “The Minister only spoke about strengthening the existing 6 year secondary school system(based on the 1987 Educational Reform; of 3 years of JHS and 3 years SHS) by resourcing the neglected lower secondary (JHS) so that after 3 years of JHS and 3 years of SHS, secondary school graduates will have an experience of a true 6-year secondary school system introduced by the 1987 education reform.”
We should be mindful not to confuse Secondary Education with senior High Education.
At no point did the Minister say in yesterday’s press forum that SHS was to move from the current 3yrs to 6yrs.
