The member of parliament for North Tongu constitituency Hon Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa has stated that the government is in the process of dropping the obnoxious E levy. According to the NDC legistor, his information at the seat of government indicates that the contract signed by the finance ministry for a third party to serve as a receiver of the proposed tax had been canceled. He believes that was a clear indication that the almighty E levy is going be dropped as long as Ghanaians continue to push harder. He made this known in his Facebook page sighted by CitizenOne.

He stated that a deep throat and unimpeachable sources suggest that, the scandalous allocation of GHS241,933,000 under the dodgy title of e-Transaction Levy Services in the 2022 Budget has been tabled for what was a heated discussion at a Cabinet Meeting President Akufo-Addo chaired a couple of days ago.

“My usually impeccable sources within Cabinet add that the offensive sweetheart deal is now off and that the sleazy allocation would no longer feature in the final Appropriation Act.

Thanks to our exposé and relentless united advocacy, we have saved Ghana a humongous GHS242million”

While celebrating this breakthrough, Hon. Ablakwa encouraged Ghanaians to continue to push and pray as the E Levy inches to its end.

“As we thank God for this collective victory on a holy Sunday, let’s keep pushing and praying for more grace and fortitude to eventually defeat the obnoxious and acutely regressive E-Levy whose end is almost here”, he concluded.

The Government is seeking to introduce the electronic transaction tax at 1.75% on every mobile money transaction exceeding GHC 100. The proposal which was announced during the 2022 budget presentation was met with heavy public outcry led by the opposition NDC and the minority caucus. They have since served notice that they won’t have anything to do with the budget as long as it contains the E Levy.

Dr. Bawumia is one of the few Government officials who against the introduction of mobile money tax. Dr. Bawumia made his position known last year during a radio interview.
