The debate over the budget statement presented by the Finance Minister weeks ago is still raging and has caused divisions among Ghanaians who hold mixed reactions over the policy measures intended to be introduced. One notable policy that has attracted public attention and backlash is the Electronic transactions levy of 1.75%.
It is on record that the aforementioned policy has become the single debated issue causing indignation in our national media space. The Minority Caucus in Parliament led by Honourable Haruna Iddrisu has indicated that it would fiercely oppose the tax in its current form after recommending a drastic reduction or an outright scrapping of the tax.
Earlier today, December 10, 2021 it was a heated discussion in the studios of Good Morning Ghana show hosted by Dr. Randy Abbey as the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central constituency, Honourable Isaac Adongo clashed with Dr. Festus of the NPP on the budget and matters arising.
Honourable Isaac Adongo boldly registered his resentment over how the government has been misleading the general public over its projects. He indicated that, he has become privy to certain ill deeds and mishaps of this government after he became a Committee member of Finance in Parliament.
According to the lawmaker, several attempts have been made by the government to steal glory but all attempts tend to vindicate former President John Dramani Mahama. He stated categorically that, the government undertakes literally every projects with a borrowed money.
Speaking further, the lawmaker schooled his colleague member of Parliament over how the government is sinking the country with misleading claims on achievements. The lawmaker was quick to add that, the Bawumia’s management team has been reduced to lectures without actions and evidence to show.
He said, “This government is paying for everything with borrowed money. Yet, you will see them amassing praises like they are being competent. Use your own record and it would vindicate former president. Do not stop using your own record to vindicate Mahama.”
