32 of the 47 governors have identified ODM leader Raila Odinga as their man for 2022, Nyandarua governor Francis Kimemia has alleged.

He says that the 32 have decided to support Raila for the presidency and will be demonstrating it by attending his ‘Azimio La Umoja’ event on Friday.

He on Wednesday claimed that this is something that has been agreed on, and which also indicates what should be expected in the 2022 presidential race.

For him, the support of such a number of county bosses will expand Raila’s war chest, making him almost invincible come the much awaited polls.

“There are about 32 of us who will be attending that event. We will be with Raila at Kasarani which also says a lot about the elections. With that number of us on his side who can defeat us?” he posed.

He made the remarks at the Safari Park Hotel, in the presence of Raila, according to a video posted on the former Premier’s official Facebook page.

Raila is up against among others, Deputy President William Ruto, his main opponent, who analysts argue is the only other person who can win the top seat.

Kimemia’s remark, if anything to go by, should come as bad news to Ruto, especially with anticipations that governors will play a big role in the top race.

Analysts say that the governors’ finances and grassroot support will be very crucial when it comes to wooing votes, giving the one with the majority the upper hand.

“They can put some money in one’s campaign. They have county structures. Women representatives have no money, unlike governors who manage billions of shillings. County structures are also elaborate in terms of mobilisation,” political analyst Martin Andati told The Star.

Suna East MP Junet Mohamed on Tuesday claimed that 200 MPs will also be present for the event slated to take place at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi.
